The Mystery of Weight Loss

@thrivebyeli

I always wondered how the market for the diet industry in 2021 is close to $254.9 billion but fails so miserably for 99% of our population.

Where is the disconnect? How do people spend so much time and money, over and over again on products and diets that don’t work, just to start again when they’re so fed up with themselves?!

I figured out why. In 2019 alone, we were bombarded by $78 billion dollars in weight loss ads and commercials promising life-changing quick fixes and chemically addictive "weight loss" products, broadcasted ad nauseam.

So what can you do?!

Research. Fat loss happens the fastest when you’re first starting out and you have more body fat to lose. If you stop eating 4000 calories and drop down to 2000 calories you’ll be in a major calorie deficit and lose weight quickly. Once you lose, the deficit becomes smaller which slows fat loss and your metabolism adapts. The leaner you become, the slower your rate of fat loss. It’s kind of like a long, bumpy boat ride. Losing between 1/2 lb-2lbs a week after detox is normal, healthy and sustainable.

Stop starving yourself. Emotions and the stress of every day life are major factors in weight gain. To ignore this integral part of why we overeat and just try to starve ourselves or follow a super low calorie meal plan is an easy first step, but that’s where most fail. It’s not sustainable and causes disordered eating and ruins our metabolism.

Self care. When you take care of yourself emotionally, physically and mentally you can be kind to your body and be thoughtful about what you’re putting into it and the amount of exercise you’re getting.

Prep and consistency. Shop fresh, healthy foods and prep as much as you can for a few days at a time. Be consistent.

Stay away from refined sugar. It’s a silent killer and super addictive.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
